POKOTABI / Yakiniku Tamon
多文
Tucked along a back alley in Kagurazaka on the building's second floor, Yakiniku Tamon serves up thick-cut jo-tongue, skirt steak, omasum sashimi, and stone-grilled bibimbap amid savory smoke.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Stepping into a narrow side street off the main Kagurazaka slope and heading up the stairs brings you to Yakiniku Tamon on the second floor. Slide open the door and you are immediately greeted by rich smoke rising from tabletop roasters and the lively, unpretentious buzz of a neighborhood yakiniku parlor. Gathering here in comfortable clothing with close friends to grill meat right before your eyes is central to the restaurant's straightforward appeal.
The primary draw for most diners is the upper beef tongue (jo-tongue) and harami skirt steak. Sliced thick, the jo-tongue offers a pleasingly crisp bite, while the resilient, tender harami releases deeper meaty flavor with every chew. Tender kalbi with a balanced distribution of lean and fat is another dependable choice. Between cuts on the grill, crisp-textured sashimi such as senmai (omasum tripe) or hachinosu (honeycomb tripe) keep the pace lively.
Ordering the mixed horumon to sample various offal textures in a single dish, or enjoying savory sauce-glazed chicken thigh spooned over hot white rice, reflects how regulars tend to eat here. To close the meal, guests often turn to sizzling stone-grilled bibimbap, prized for its fragrant crisped rice crust, or a bowl of chilled noodles that clears the palate.
Lunchtime offers approachable sets like the kalbi lunch, while evenings see the dining room fill with people sharing drinks, draft beer, and grilled meat around the tables. Because dinner seats fill up quickly, reserving ahead is recommended.
